Jamal Shakir, hoped to renew his Rollin' 90 Crips criminal enterprise

Federal authorities say a gang leader had developed an elaborate plot to escape from prison in a homemade helicopter flown by his underlings.The Tennessean of Nashville reported Friday that the case against one of the gang leader's associates, 35-year-old Faith Readus, will be heard by a grand jury. She is accused of researching different types of helicopters and flight training.Authorities say the plot was orchestrated by Jamal Shakir, who hoped to renew his Rollin' 90 Crips criminal enterprise. He was convicted in May 2008 of orchestrating a nationwide drug ring, laundering money and killing nine people between 1994 and 1997.Readus' attorney, Jennifer Thompson, could not be reached Friday. But she said at a Thursday hearing that such a plot was ridiculous.

Four Britons were being held on the Costa del Sol today accused of the shooting of a Liverpool man last month.Beachfront bar security boss Marvin Herbert was gunned down on September 24 at Puerto Banus, the millionaires’ yacht marina on the edge of Marbella.The 33-year-old was shot five times in the eye, the groin, pelvis, right leg and right arm.He was attacked in broad daylight by a lone gunman in front of dozens of witnesses.Herbert remains in hospital after a series of operations. Eight high-ranking gang members that make up the top leadership of a local chapter of the Latin Kings street gang were arrested on drug, assault and weapons charges, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy announced Friday. Two others, believed to be gang "associates" were also arrested.The arrests come as a result of an investigation that spanned several months and included aggressive efforts from the FBI Long Island Gang Task Force and the Suffolk County Police Department Special Operations Team.Gang violence has long plagued several communities on Long Island prompting the FBI to recently boost its anti-gang personnel and add more agents to gang crackdown investigations.Among those arrested include Angel Cordero Jr. who authorities describe as the leader of the Huntington-area chapter.
