execution-style hit by reputed members of the Bloods street gang in Kingston

Seven reputed members of the Bloods street gang in Kingston have been indicted on murder and other felony charges in what authorities are calling an “execution-style hit against a man who was cooperating with police, Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright said today. The grand jury returned first-degree murder indictments against Kingston residents Trevor Mattis and Gary Griffin. Mattis, Griffin and five other reputed gang members — Jermaine Nicholas, Jarrin Rankin, Rondy Russ, Amanda Miller and Demitria Kelley — were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, Carnright said. The district attorney said the victim of the murder, city resident Joseph King Jr., was shot after he cooperated with police in the investigation of a shooting on Henry Street that took place Nov. 21, 2009. Rankin was arrested in connection with that shooting.

Carnright said Rankin is charged with “masterminding” the hit on King from his cell at the Ulster County Jail “in retaliation for his having cooperated with police against Rankin and to prevent him from testifying at Rankin’s upcoming trial.”
